gnotify

See which PRs need your review.
Follow your own until they merge.
All from the menu bar.

gnotify is a free, open source macOS menubar app. It watches a GitHub org, counts the reviews you owe, and says something only when that changes.

What it does

Five things, and it does nothing else.

01

Tells you when you’re asked

A notification when a PR opens with a review request for you or one of your teams. Submit your review and it drops off. If someone re-requests you, it tells you again.

02

Counts what’s waiting

The menubar icon carries the number of PRs currently waiting on you. Zero means zero: no icon noise when there’s nothing to do.

03

Lists them, honestly

The To Review tab shows each PR with who asked. A request that only reached you through a team says the team, not your name. Your own PRs never appear here.

04

Watches your own PRs too

The My PRs tab lists every open PR you authored in the org as Approved, Changes requested, Awaiting review or Draft, with who said or was asked what, and whether Copilot is still reviewing.

05

Tells you when they move

A notification when one of your PRs is approved, and another when Copilot finishes its review. Each once, naming who.

Quiet by default

Every alert has an off switch.

Turn all three off and gnotify becomes a dashboard: the list and the badge keep updating, nothing ever pops up. Turn one back on and it starts from now, not from everything it missed.

Privacy

Everything stays between you and GitHub.

StorageYour token and settings live in the app’s sandboxed storage, on your own Mac.

Networkgnotify talks to the GitHub API and nothing else.

ServersThere is no gnotify server, no account, no telemetry.

Setup

Four fields and you’re done.

  1. Launch the app and open Settings. The first launch opens it for you.
  2. Paste a GitHub token. Scopes are on the right.
  3. Enter the organization to watch.
  4. Add one or more targets: usernames, or teams written as org/team-slug. “Add me” resolves the token’s own user and adds it.
Token scopes
Classic PATScopes repo and read:org.
Fine-grained
  • Set Resource owner to the organization, not your personal account.
  • Grant Pull requests: Read on the repos to watch.
  • Grant Members: Read on the org for team queries.

A fine-grained token issued under your personal account can read the org’s metadata, but every org-scoped search returns 422 The listed users and repositories cannot be searched. If the org restricts fine-grained tokens, an org owner has to approve it.
